“La gente me suele llamar trabajólico, porque realizo mucho trabajo, produzco música solo. Creo que parte de eso, parte de ese impulso, parte de esa motivación, viene del miedo a la mortalidad, la idea de que un día, pronto, en algun momento de los próximos cincuenta años dejaré de existir. ...people call me workaholic a lot, because a do a lot of work, a produce solo music. I think part of that, part of that driving, part of that motivation, comes from the fear of mortality, the idea that one day, soon, sometime in the next fifty years, I’m gonna cease to exist. That’s I think about a lot, but of course it’s also in the back of my mind when I write any song.

Israel is a very open-minded place but it’s also the Holy Land, and people always make that association. Israel is seen as a hotbed of religion and living in Tel Aviv, it was definitely not the impression that I got.

“Hay algo levemente inquietante sobre la gente que crea música extraordinaria. Es casi como si estuvieras usando partes de su mente donde otras personas no llegan. Si miras a grandes artistas como Picasso o Mozart están en el límite de ser personas extremadamente perturbadas. Pero de alguna forma escogieron canalizar esos impulsos en la creatividad. Supongo que hay una delgada línea entre canalizar a través de la creatividad o la destrucción.”

There‘s something slightly disturbing about people who create extraordinary music. It‘s almost like were you tapping into part of their mind which other people don‘t tap into. This is my theory. So there is a very thin line, if you look at the great artists, someone like Picasso or Mozart. They are on the verge of insanity, on the verge of being extremely disturbed, psychopathic people. But in a way they‘ve chosen to channel those impulses into creativity. I guess that there is a very thin line between channelling them in creativity and destruction.

“Creo que parte de la responsabilidad de los artistas es, de alguna forma, exponerse a sí mismos. Y cuando haces eso, creo que estás sosteniendo un espejo hacia la gente que escucha tu música. Ese espejo es por supuesto una imagen de ti mismo, pero tú le estás preguntando a las personas que escuchan que vean si se reconocen a ellos mismos cuando miran ese espejo.”

I think part of the artist’s responsibility is to, in a way, expose themselves. And when you do that, I think you’re holding up a mirror to the people who listen to your music. That mirror is of course an image of yourself, but you’re asking the people that listen to the music to see if they recognize themselves when they look in that mirror.
