Con experiencia en teatro antes de escribir para televisión, cofundó el Teatro Luna en 2000 y fue su codirectora artística durante diez años. También cofundó la Alianza de Artistas de Teatro Latinx de Chicago. Es conocida por acercar la "mirada latina". Fue showrunner de la serie Vida en el canal Starz, que duró tres temporadas .
