Warren Farrell es un politólogo, profesor, ensayista y escritor estadounidense, autor de siete libros sobre estudios del varón y de la mujer, algunos de ellos considerados como fundamentales dentro del Masculinismo y el movimiento por los derechos del hombre.[1]​[2]​

Sus primeros libros, El varón liberado y Por qué los varones son como son , analizan los problemas de los hombres de manera similar a como el feminismo analiza los problemas de las mujeres.

Según su teoría, los sexos o géneros deberían ser equivalentes. Es decir, cree necesaria la pérdida de importancia de los papeles tradicionales de género. Ha analizado el desequilibrio de poder entre hombres y mujeres, argumentando que favorece exageradamente a las últimas: "el movimiento feminista ha hecho un trabajo excelente para liberar a la mujer de los papeles femeninos, pero nadie ha hecho lo mismo para los hombres".
