Jorge II de Gran Bretaña y Hannover fue rey de Gran Bretaña y de Irlanda, duque de Brunswick-Luneburgo , Príncipe elector del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico desde el 11 de junio de 1727 hasta su muerte y duque de Bremen y príncipe de Verden . Fue el segundo soberano de la Casa de Hannover y el último monarca británico que dirigió personalmente sus tropas en una batalla . Asimismo, fue el último soberano inglés en nacer fuera de Gran Bretaña.
Jorge II fue famoso por sus múltiples conflictos con su padre y posteriormente con su hijo . Sus relaciones con su mujer fueron mucho mejores, pese a las numerosas amantes que tuvo. Jorge II ejerció poco control sobre la política durante el principio de su reinado, el gobierno estaba dirigido por el primer ministro, Robert Walpole.
