Marcel Duchamp fue un artista y ajedrecista francés.

Especialmente conocido por su actividad artística, su obra ejerció una fuerte influencia en la evolución del movimiento pop en el siglo XX. Al igual que el citado movimiento, abominó la sedimentación simbólica en las obras artísticas como consecuencia del paso del tiempo y exaltó el valor de lo coyuntural, lo fugaz y lo contemporáneo. Duchamp es uno de los principales valedores de la creación artística como resultado de un puro ejercicio de la voluntad, sin necesidad estricta de formación, preparación o talento.
