Nikos Kazantzakis fue un escritor griego, autor de poemas, novelas, ensayos, obras de teatro y libros de viaje. Posiblemente, es el escritor y filósofo griego más importante del siglo XX y el que ha sido traducido a más lenguas. No obstante, no fue muy conocido hasta el estreno de la película Zorba, el griego , de Michael Cacoyannis, basada en la novela homónima y obra más reconocida de Kazantzakis junto con La última tentación de Cristo.
