Original: «I should be inclined, therefore, as I have hinted before, to consider the world and this life as the mighty process of God, not for the trial, but for the creation and formation of mind, a process necessary to awaken inert, chaotic matter into spirit, to sublimate the dust of the earth into soul, to elicit an ethereal spark from the clod of clay. And in this view of the subject, the various impressions and excitements which man receives through life may be considered as the forming hand of his Creator, acting by general laws, and awakening his sluggish existence, by the animating touches of the Divinity, into a capacity of superior enjoyment. The original sin of man is the torpor and corruption of the chaotic matter in which he may be said to be born».

Idioma original: «I find now that women have achieved some power and recognition they are quite the equal of men in every stupidity and vice and misjudgment that we've exercised through history. They're narrow-minded, power seeking, incapable of recognizing the joys of a good discussion. The women's movement is filled with tyrants, just as men's political movements are equally filled. What I've come to discover are the negative sides, that women are no better than men. I used to think — this is sexism in a way, I'll grant it — that women were better than men. Now I realize no, they're not any better».

Original: It is only natural that I should constantly have revolved in my mind the question of the relationship of the symbolism of the unconscious to Christianity as well as to other religions. Not only do I leave the door open for the Christian message, but I consider it of central importance for Western man. It needs, however, to be seen in a new light, in accordance with the changes wrought by the contemporary spirit

But will you have the strength of mind, the courage to endure the approach of Beings so different from mankind? I know that their coming produces certain inevitable effects, as internal tremors, the revulsion of the blood from its ordinary course; but I also know that these terrors, these revulsions, painful as they undoubtedly are, must appear as nothing compared with the mortal pain of separation from an object loved greatly and exclusively».

Cartas sobre la igualdad de los sexos y la condición de la mujer (1837)
Original: «All history attests that man has subjected woman to his will, used her as a means to promote his selfish gratification, to minister to his sensual pleasures, to be instrumental in promoting his comfort; but never has he desired to elevate her to that rank she was created to fill. He has done all he could to debase and enslave her mind; and now he looks triumphantly on the ruin he has wrought, and say, the being he has thus deeply injured is his inferior».

Backlash : The Undeclared War against American Women
Original: «Although the backlash is not a movement, that doesn't make it any less destructive. In fact, the lack of orchestration, the absence of a single string-puller, only makes it harder to see — and perhaps more effective. A backlash against women's rights succeeds to the degree that it appears not to be political, that it appears not to be a struggle at all. It is most powerful when it goes private, when it lodges in a woman's mind and turns her vision inward, until she imagines the pressure is all in her head, until she begins to enforce the backlash, too — on herself.»

...people call me workaholic a lot, because a do a lot of work, a produce solo music. I think part of that, part of that driving, part of that motivation, comes from the fear of mortality, the idea that one day, soon, sometime in the next fifty years, I’m gonna cease to exist. That’s I think about a lot, but of course it’s also in the back of my mind when I write any song.

Israel is a very open-minded place but it’s also the Holy Land, and people always make that association. Israel is seen as a hotbed of religion and living in Tel Aviv, it was definitely not the impression that I got.

There‘s something slightly disturbing about people who create extraordinary music. It‘s almost like were you tapping into part of their mind which other people don‘t tap into. This is my theory. So there is a very thin line, if you look at the great artists, someone like Picasso or Mozart. They are on the verge of insanity, on the verge of being extremely disturbed, psychopathic people. But in a way they‘ve chosen to channel those impulses into creativity. I guess that there is a very thin line between channelling them in creativity and destruction.
